Trauma Focused-Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) is a short-term treatment plan that is completed over 18-24 sessions. TF-CBT is typically used to treat trauma symptoms in children. When working with children, play is normal to add into sessions, but these sessions are also more structured with a goal of completing skills and activities known to be important in reducing distress related to trauma. Parents or caregivers are involved in the process of TF-CBT and in several of the sessions. If the child is over 5 years old, there could also be an additional assessment.
