Personal Information
Hi, I’m Amy Bowen—a Licensed Professional Counselor and the owner of Countryside Counseling in McLoud, Oklahoma. My path to becoming a therapist wasn’t traditional, but it’s one I believe has deeply enriched the way I support my clients.

My approach to therapy is shaped not only by formal training, but also by real-life experiences that help me connect with the challenges my clients face. I understand how hard it can be to show up for healing when life already feels heavy, and I honor the courage it takes to begin this process.

Before the age of 38, I wasn’t living an intentional life. After years of pushing through stress, I developed a panic disorder and agoraphobia—an experience that forced me to pause and reflect and go through my own therapeutic and spiritual journey. I realized I had lost my sense of identity and direction. That turning point led me into a new chapter—one of deep personal healing, growth, and purpose. Over the last decade, I’ve combined my education and life experiences to help others through their own seasons of change.

In therapy, I bring a practical, down-to-earth personality along with compassion, curiosity, and an appreciation for every season of life. I place a strong emphasis on emotional safety—creating an environment where you can let your guard down, be real, and feel seen.  I take into account the whole person—your relationships, your past, your environment, and the unique strengths you bring into the room. We explore the past not to stay stuck there, but to gain understanding and help you build a future that feels more peaceful, connected, and aligned with who you truly are.

Together, we’ll work to uncover the root causes of what’s keeping you stuck. Whether it’s unresolved trauma, anxious patterns, disordered eating, negative core beliefs, relationship struggles, or other patterns, I use a variety of interventions to help you gain clarity, process what needs to be healed, and create a clear plan for change. I’m especially passionate about helping clients move past resistance to treatment by building trust and taking things at a pace that feels manageable.

One of the most powerful tools I’ve incorporated in recent years is guided journaling. In as little as 5–10 minutes a day, clients begin to shift negative core beliefs, process emotional blocks, and create lasting change in how they think, feel, and relate to others. This work helps transform insight into action, and new skills into lifelong habits.  Even if my client's do not like journaling or have never tried it, I work with clients to utilize this skill in the ways that are useful and easy for them.

Outside of the therapy room, I’ve been married since 1999, am the proud mom of an adult son, and share life with two spoiled poodles.

My journey continues to shape how I show up—with compassion, real-life perspective, and a deep belief that change is always possible.  I can't wait to work with you.

As a lifelong learner, I’m constantly deepening my knowledge through weekly reading, clinical research, and advanced training. My ongoing studies include evidence-based practices like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Self-Compassion, Mindfulness, Somatic Therapy, and neuroplasticity-informed techniques. My passion is to offer not only empathy, but tools that truly empower.
